    1Funaoka Castle Park (Shibata Town, Miyagi Prefecture)

    The only location in the Miyagi Prefecture to be included in the “Top 100 Cherry Blossom Site” by the Japan Cherry Blossom Association (pubic corporation). Direct from the parking lot, jump in the slope car and climb 305m to the top and enjoy the views of the Zao mountain range and the Pacific Ocean.

    2Shibata Cherry Blossom Festival (Shibata Town, Miyagi Prefecture)

    The main venues are located around the cherry blossoms of Funaoka Castle Park and along the banks of the Shiroishi River. Held every year from the beginning to the end of April, more than a quarter of a million people visit annually during this season to marvel at the cherry blossoms.

    3Ogawara Cherry Blossom Festival (Ogawara Town, Miyagi Prefecture)

    Together with the Shibata Cherry Blossom Festival, it is held annually from the beginning to the end of April around the Shiroishi River Park. During this period, the trains between JR Ogawara Station and Funaoka Station will run slowly so the passengers can appreciate the view.

    4Hitome Senbon Zakura – (Thousand cherry blossom trees in a glance) (Ogawara Town, Miyagi Prefecture)

    The Yoshino Cherry trees proudly blossoms along the banks of the Shiroishi River spanning approximately 8km. The cherry trees are lit up between 18:00 – 22:00 during the festival season, creating a magical atmosphere where visitors can enjoy the slightly different face of the cherry trees.

    5Shiroishi River Sen-ou Park, Shibata Sen-ou-kyou Bridge (Ogawara Town, Miyagi Prefecture)

    A park by the banks of the Shiroishi River, completed in 2017. There is a promenade and the “Shibata Sen-ou-kyou” Bridge, a bridge that connects to the Funaoka Castle Park which completed in 2015. Visitors can take mesmerizing shots of the trains that run below the bridge with the Hitome Senbon Zakura (thousand cherry blossom trees in a glance).

    6Hanagasa Festival (Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture)

    One of the four great festivals of Tohoku. The powerful voices and the gallant sound of the Hanagasa-taiko drums. A gorgeous festival where dancers adorned in beautiful costumes with Hanagasa flower hats fill the main streets of Yamagata City.
